Data portrait #02 ..
Say my name .. Say my name ..
Easily my favourite song from The Writing's on the Wall, way back when the album dropped.
I've had it stuck in my head the last few weeks whilst I've been trying to pick a second song I could use for a 'Data Portrait' - taking a song, and looking at ways 'data' can be pulled from it, and then visually represented.
Breaking this song down to its bare bones .. I think it's about trying to get a confirmation of truth, without asking the question you really want to ask .. So I built the animation, wasn't entirely sold on it, and then showed it to my wife, hoping for a fresh perspective.
.. She didn't get it 🙃
Which brought up the age old question everyone who makes anything eventually has to ask - do I keep going, and try and fix it, or just drop it, and watch the hours spent so far plummet into the abyss 😬 I decided to keep going .. If this were a piece of work for a client, I wouldn't get to runaway from the brief just because I'm stuck, I'd have to find a solution.
I think I fixed it .. Specifically questioning that as I write this now 🙄 But I'm happy enough to share where it's at.
.. I could try and make this into some kind of a 'LinkedIn lesson' about process, or resilience, or learning to trust the work .. But let's not be that guy. The reality is, I didn't nail the idea I had first time around, and needed to go again - or maybe I just didn't want to lose the time I'd already dropped into it in the first place - who's to say it needs to be any deeper than that 🤷🏻‍♂️
